Wonder Food Adventure at 1 Utama With The Butterflies - Part 1

I normally do not join food event but when I know that there’s a Food Adventure event from The Butterfly Project, I quickly RSVP. Why? Simply because it’s held at my most favorite shopping Centre - 1 Utama.

I’m a loyalty customer at 1 Utama, In fact, my family is! Can you imagine me and my family always hang out there even before the LDP was built! I miss those times when we used to cross the Sri Damansara narrow and dark road after shopping at 1 Utama, and my dad would stopped by the Durian stall along the road to grab some kampung durians before we heading home. Ah, old time & old memories always the best!

Now, after LDP was built, we need to pay RM 1.60 toll to get to 1 Utama from Kepong. Even that, 1 Utama is still my preferred shopping mall simply because 1 Utama is the World’s Largest Mall listed as “World’s 12 Best Shopping Cities” on CNN. It’s easily accessible by NKVE, LDP and Sprint Hi-way.

What’s more, I got to collect points when I shop with my ONECARD. I’ve accumulated UPoints worth RM 70 in my ONECARD for shopping there over the past 3 years. I would say that no other Shopping Mall gives me rebates as such.

After shopping, we usually get a place to have some food and rest to recharge our battery. There are many food choices in 1 Utama but I always stick to a few that I’ve tried before. I’ve braved myself to try all the 15 restaurants/cafes last Saturday during the Wonder Food Adventure at 1 Utama which was collaborated by The Butterfly Project.
The selected 50 Butterfly Project Bloggers were given 5 hours from 11am to 4pm on 16th November 2013 to try out the 15 restaurants/cafes. We were given a food passport where we could get our stamps for each of the restaurant we visited that day. Each of us would need to cover 5 restaurants as compulsory but most of us have actually visited all restaurants. So kiasu, right?

I’ve team up with Ashley, Swee San, Chocky and Alice that day to explore the restaurants and cafes together that day. We started from 1 Utama Old Wing, LG Promenade: SS2 Goreng Pisang, Ninja Joe, Seaweed Club, I Love Yoo, Eat & Happy Yong Tau Foo, Oyster King, Bisou, Mr Cendol, Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh, Ko Hyang Korean Country Delights.

There our Wonder Food Adventure began…
No. 1 Ninja Joe – Non Halal
I believe Ninja Joe is already well known for KL and Selangor people. Started at a Mall in PJ, it is famous of the different choices of pork burger. My friends and I always eat the yummy mini pork burger after our movie dates. It’s really affordable and convenient.
No. 2 Ko Hyang Korean Country Delights
As from the name itself, you should already know that this is a Korean Cuisine restaurant.  Their Kim Chi Ji Gae, Bi Bim Bad and Bul Go Gi Bokem are really delicious, strongly recommended to all of you.
No. 3 I Love Yoo! 老油鬼鬼
I Love Yoo! Is another one of my favorite restaurant. Whenever I am alone and don’t want to have heavy meal, I would always go there and order Set A or Set B. For less than RM 10, we could get a bowl of Soya milk or Porridge serve with Yao Zha Kwai in a Shopping Mall. Not only it’s affordable, the food taste fresh and good too!
No. 4 SS2 Goreng Pisang 炸蕉黄
Goreng Pisang( fried banana fritters) is Malaysian's all-time favourites. The fried bananas and nian-gao(Chinese Rice Cake) are really crunchy and tasty.
No. 5 Oyster King

Another local street food for Malaysian. Oyster King serves fresh oyster, garlic oysters, fried oyster, oyster noodles, and many more food with oyster. I’m gotta bring my husband to this Oyster King very soon because he loves oyster very much.

No. 6 Eat & Happy Yong Tau Foo
Yong Tau Foo is local Chinese favorite homemade food. My mum used to make Yong Tau Foo at home but now we could enjoy the tasty Yong Tau Foo without the hassle of preparing at Eat & Happy Yong Tau Foo.
No. 7 Mr. Cendol
Cendol is my favorite Indian dessert. Mr. Cendol serves a variety of Cendol for reasonable price. Their Red beans are really big and tasty.
No. 8 Bisou Bake Shop

We were given “Cupcake of the Month” – Chocolush to try on that day. I brought it back for my elder girl that day, she ‘sapu’ it immediately and wanted more lol…
Bisou capcake is selling at RM 6 each.
No. 9 Seaweed Club
This is not just another sushi roll, seaweed club serves seaweed salad popiah which is made of juicy yam bean, spring roll, fresh cucumber, crunchy carrot, and roasted seaweed. There are four different flavors: Original, Spicy, Wasabi and Tuna.
Many people like the seaweed roll as the kiosk are full house most of the time.
No. 10 Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh 宝香绑线肉骨茶 (non-halal)

This was my first time trying Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh. Unlike usual Bah Kut Teh, Pao Xiang has little soup but a lot of meats and pork ribs, and it taste good. No wonder it’s so famous.

The Wonder Food Adventure To be Continue....
