Movie - "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" Screening in Malaysia This March 19

Singapore director Jack Neo’s third installation to his “Ah Boys to Men” recruit series created an online sensation with more than 15,000 hits on the day the trailer was released on YouTube.

The movie showcases the original casts such as Wang Wei Liang, Tosh Zhang, Joshua Tan, Bunz, Jaspers, Maxi Lim and Charlie. The movie received overwhelming support from the local audience and set a new record in Singapore during the Chinese New Year with an accumulative box office of SGD$2.8mil. Currently the box office has hit SGD$6.4 mil, exceeding the collection for “Ah Boys to Men”. It is set to hit the big screens in Malaysia this March 19.

Released by MM2 Entertainment, “Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen” is an action comedy about a group of young recruits training in the Singapore Navy. The story follows the new recruits experience and growth while they trained at the Naval Diving Unit (NDU), especially during the toughest “hellweek”.

Director Neo said while the story is still based on army recruits, this movie is very different from the previous two where the story is based on their training camp in Tekong. He said NDU is a special taskforce that requires special skills and the training is more challenging than the rest. The Navy required all the young actors to achieve a certain standards of physical fitness, because they were portraying a group of well-trained elites. All actors were given a 3-month intensive training to ensure they are fit enough to endure the requirements needed for the filming.

Maxi’s Character Remains an Outcast

In the movie, Joshua Tan played the character of a lazy, rich, spoilt kid who is very lazy who thinks national service is a waste of his time and doesn’t care about his performance in camp. He finds all sorts of excuses, even using his mum, to cheat his way out from training.

Maxi Lim acted as a graduate from Institute of Technology whose hope is to earn the SAF scholarship. His over-enthusiasm was taken negatively by his cabin mates, making him an unpopular person in the group.

Wei Liang “Stripping” for 6mil Box Office

Wang Wei Liang’s character is a boy who worked in a mobile shop in Sim Lim Square and the clown of the group while Tosh Zhang acted as the Regular in the Navy team who is very strict to his new recruits. He was the big brother of the group, who is firm but concerned.

New idol Wesley Wong graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and was spotted by Director Neo for his talents in sports. Wesley Wong is the son of famous Hong Kong actress Angie Chiu. He is an all-rounder who excels in swimming, football, basketball, boxing and other games. Wesley said he was very excited when he received the script, but it was until the physical training started he realized what a big challenge it was. He played the role of a gangster head before joining the army, who is a proud and uncooperative big bully.

Wang Wei Liang “sacrificing” His First On-Screen Kiss

In the movie Black Dragon (Wesley Wong) was unhappy with his parents’ decision to migrate to Singapore, causing him to have to join the National Service. He was very different from the other new recruits and is a negative character that often resorts to violence. This character is very different from the usual image of Wesley. To understand his character better, Wesley had joined the army training earlier to experience the lifestyle. There are many diving scenes in the movie in which Wesley had insisted to complete them on his own. To be able to film these, he even went to get a diving certificate. Maxi Lim praised his co-actor Wesley for his strength, attitude and professionalism. Wesley revealed that the most unforgettable moment to him is a special kissing scene, where he “stole” Wang Wei Liang’s first kiss on-screen. Curious how it happened? Do not miss out the movie!

Synopsis:

Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen brings Singapore’s favourite recruits back to the days before enlistment in ABTM. Instead of Pulau Tekong, the Ah Boys are posted to the Naval Diving Unit (NDU). Returning to active duty are familiar characters – Ken Chow (Joshua Tan), the spoilt, rich kid, who tries to 'keng' his way out of NS. Aloysius Jin AKA Wayang King (Maxi Lim), whose over-enthusiasm creates more problems for his cabin mates. Lobang (Wang Weiliang), the street-smart wheeler dealer, out to make a quick buck off his cabin mates. Joining them is new face Hei Long AKA The Black Dragon (Wesley Wong), an aggressive gang leader, who prefers to talk with his fists instead of his mouth. Together, this ragtag band of misfits must somehow survive 40 weeks of training in hell. Do they have what it takes to become one of Singapore’s most fearsome military units – the frogmen?

I had the chance to attend the movie premiere at GSC Nu Sentral on Monday night with a lot of artists, celebrities and fans. The whole movie hall was filled with laughter and emotion throughout the movie. I found the movie is hillarious just like Ah Boys to Men 1 and 2, and yet it is meaningful. It has taught me that everybody has their own problems, but we have to be positive to handle it and get over it. It has also taught me to make love, make friends and not make enermies.

I'd recommend 'Ah Boys to Men 3 : Frogmen' to all races as the movie is mainly in English. It is worth watching in cinema as most of the actors are eye-catching.  ;)
