I am living in the Caffeinated Lifestyle
where I can’t live without coffee. I usually grab a coffee before work and take
coffee breaks during the day. When Watsons invited me to their first Taste Life
with Watsons event that was collaborated with famous VCR Café, I just know that
I am sure gonna make time to it.
First time hearing Taste Life with
Watsons? Let me tell you a bit more about it.
With the aim of being the best loyalty
programme ever, Watsons has launched their Watsons VIP programme since 2014. To
date, there are 80 brands with over 500 outlets nationwide, and it has become
the strongest proposition for a loyalty card program in Malaysia.
Watsons VIP Member new member
application cost RM 18, and it cost RM 6 for an upgrade. The Card benefits
include earns 1 points with every RM 1 spent, use the points to pay for
products in store and online, 2X points on all Watsons Brand products, Lifetime
membership with no renewal fees, exclusive invites to sales, events and
workshops, earn 5x points when pay with your Watsons Touch’n Go, 5x points on
Birthday month, as well as dining privileges over 90 places to choose from.
In hopes of
engaging with a whole new cluster of members who share the same view on life
with Taste Life with Watsons’ new tagline, “Good Food = Good Life”, they had
kicked off their first stop at VCR Café on bringing their VIP member card
holders a money can’t buy experience; Coffee Appreciation Workshop with Keith
Koay, Malaysia Barista Champion of 2016. I was honored and happy to be invited
to the Coffee Appreciation Workshop held at VCR Kitchen, which is a black
building few doors away from VCR Café.
The 24-year-old
barista majored in accounting and finance at SEGi College and is now brewing
cuppas at VCR, a café in Jalan Galloway. For his winning cuppas at MBC 2016,
Koay used a Panama Centro De Especialdades coffee roasted by Joey Mah of
Artisan Roastery.
It’s my efforts,
and not talent, that has gotten me this far. – said Keith Koay who was at the left at picture above.
Watsons | VCR
Café Coffee workshop covered interesting programme from coffee 101, coffee
tasting, cupping Session & experience how it’s like behind the espresso
machine. It was indeed an intimate coffee workshop where we got to learn how
coffee was chosen, how to differentiate the quality of
its taste, as well as how to perform coffee cupping.
I felt happy and joy to be
surrounded by the smells of coffee beans being ground and brewed in the
workshop, and to be able to taste different coffee from different countries and
region. Each of the coffee beans are unique and my most favourite pick goes to
Colombia Neiver Samboni. Though it is not an expensive beans but I love its
cherry + grapes + honey notes.
VCR Café @ Jalan
Galloway is indeed a place to meet with family & friends, hold
business meetings or spend time on your own to just sit and enjoy the ambience.
