Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa Showcases its “RE.DEFINED” Ballroom and Event Spaces

Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa held a showcase event themed “Re.Defined” which saw its corporate guests and members of the media invited to rediscover its redesigned and refreshed spaces by showcasing the hotel’s event opportunities through its new technology upgrades and different event set-ups with customisable needs for endless possibilities to elevate events to an unparalleled experience. The 4-month closure which facilitated a RM54 million major refurbishment work, including enhanced facilities and new technology integration to its Grand Ballroom, meeting and functions rooms spread across three (3) levels as well as all the pre-function areas, reopened in November 2018.
During the event, Mr Roger Marcz, Cluster General Manager of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa said in his welcome speech that the fast changing landscape and today’s on-demand clients are re-shaping the way meetings and events are designed, thus Re.Defined focuses on user experience to future-proof the hotel’s products, services and offerings. “Since its opening in 1996, the Hotel has played host to many local and international events and we continue to elevate these events experiences to stay relevant to the fast changing consumer tastes and needs. Re.Defined brings a refreshed approach to Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa’s events and meetings programmes, which are immersive, responsive and customised to exceed needs; with endless possibilities to push the boundaries of one’s imagination to elevate events to the next level”.
A social humanoid robot – Sunny, was present during the showcase to interact with guests, providing information and guide about the new spaces. Sunny was able to recognise faces and basic human emotions, and engaged with people through conversation and his touch screen. To further elevate events in an innovative way, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa is able to provide this new feature for its clients and event organisers (applicable charges will apply).
The highlight during the launch of the new Grand Ballroom at the Re.Defined showcase event was the surround sound and visual experience using the built-in high definition LED screen backdrop, alongside four (4) additional LED screens located on the front and side walls off the ballroom that shows panorama format for an immersive effect. Laser light show with high-powered sound system was also showcased, demonstrating its ability as a venue for events of all kinds and not just a function hall.

The Grand Ballroom also featured different sections of set-up which includes dinner tables dressed in multiple themes like Oriental, Bollywood, Muhibbah and Gatsby, for cocktail events and meetings or conferences, provided a sensory visual experience.

Selected meeting and functions rooms from its thirty-two (32) rooms in Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa were also set-up in different event types to showcase its versatility. These includes a Grooming Workshop, Engineering Workshop, Creative Think-Tank Workshop, VVIP Dinner, Annual General Meeting, Board of Directors meeting and a Regional Sales Conference.
Commenting on its concept and inspiration for the redefined spaces, Mr Marcz said “We wanted to create function spaces of the future to capture masterpiece moments and the complete makeover brings an unprecedented level of meticulous care and detailing, injecting a refreshed grandeur, sophistication and a modern attitude into its space”.

The 2,266 square feet Grand Ballroom overlooking the lagoon and Sunway City has a new luxurious palette of colours soaring through in hues of gold, bronze, platinum and a tinge of royal blue, with contemporary textures and bold geometrical patterns, used dramatically on the wall, carpeting and ceiling. Grand crystal dome lights with smart lighting system runs through the ballroom, including the vast ballroom foyer - in addition to the natural light that shines through the floor-to-ceiling windows, giving it a completely different scene during the day and night. The pillar-less Grand Ballroom features a dramatic 30-ft high ceiling and a grand built-in elevated stage equipped with high definition LED screen backdrop, alongside four (4) additional LED screens located on the front and side walls off the ballroom for guests to enjoy an unobstructed view from every angle. Ideal for the most prestigious banquets as well as intimate functions, the Ballroom can seat 2,000 guests in a banquet setting, 2,700 guests in a theatre setting and 1,400 guests in a classroom setting. It also has divisible partitioning features that can split the ballroom into three (3) separate rooms to cater for smaller event needs.
Perfect for business events, intimate functions and social gatherings, the thirty-two (32) versatile column-free meeting and function rooms measuring 30 to 344 square metres spread across three (3) levels of the hotel has also been transformed with new carpeting, wall coverings, lightings and furniture, including its pre-function spaces and common coffee break areas. The use of wood and fabric, including wall coverings made from Jute, an environmentally friendly natural product, exudes an inviting air of warmth and cosiness.

Modern gadgetry and high-end technology has been fitted in to give small meetings, brainstorms and off-site discussions or presentations an extra edge. These includes built-in LED projection screens or an 86” interactive touchscreen TV with screen sharing and built-in whiteboard function which supports multiple devices, as well as the functionality to save the whiteboard content into a USB memory device.

The names of the function rooms have also been changed to represent “assembly points” where new insights are generated and memories are created – Forum, Congress and Arena. Located on level 10 and level 12 respectively, the Grand Forum and Grand Congress are made up of three (3) and four (4) combined function rooms respectively which overlook Sunway Lagoon, presenting a cosy atmosphere and wow factor for every occasion, seats up to 300 persons in a banquet setting and 330 in a theatre setting. The Grand Forum is supported by 12 other function rooms on level 10 whereas the Grand Congress is supported by eight (8) other function rooms on level 12.

On level 15, Arena features five (5) function rooms with Arena 4 as the most sought after choice for brainstorming and workshops due to its panoramic windows that overlook the Sunway City’s skyline, inspiring creativity and sparks ideas. For more private and intimate events, the individual Arena function rooms can host from 22 to 132 persons in a theatre and/or private dinner setting.
