Guardian Gives Back to Society During Festive Season

Guardian Malaysia recently organised several charity programmes to bring some cheer to the unfortunate during this year-end festive season. Jennifer Wong, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs and Event, Guardian Health And Beauty Sdn Bhd said: “At Guardian, we always strive to give something back to the society we operate in. At the end of the year, during the festive and holiday season, when most people are with their families, some are not so fortunate not to do so. Hence we feel that it is a very appropriate time to do it.”
Recently Guardian Malaysia treated 55 children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary KL, a registered Home with the Welfare Department run with donations from the public. It is a foster Home for children from poor families, dysfunctional families, single parents and orphans The 55 children were given the opportunity to shop for whatever they want at the recently remodeled Guardian store at Berjaya Times Square and each received presents including tokidoki cuddly toys.
Karyll Chee, a Guardian’s Face of Healthy Beauty winner was present to spend time with the children at the Guardian store. She said she was so happy that Guardian, in this season of giving, had given the children the opportunity to shop for what they wanted and to experience the pleasure of shopping. “Seeing their happy faces really makes me feeling so grateful and blessed with what I have,” she added. In Kuching, Sarawak, Guardian had also worked with The Spring shopping mall Kuching and Bintulu to deliver more than RM9000 worth of daily necessities for Sarawak’s Children Cancer Society and Extrameal Bintulu.

Korea's Beauty Trends for Year 2020

2020 is set to see the current as well as new K-Beauty trends dominating the market. An emphasis on natural ingredients of high efficacy is set to be the skincare focus of the coming year. This is supported by the trend of environmental and health awareness with more consumers preferring cosmetics made from natural ingredients.
Another factor which sparks the demand for more natural cosmetics is also due to skin irritation which seems to be a common skin problem today. Skin irritation can be caused by a variety of factors such as pollution and harsh weather conditions, which can result in weakened skin barrier. In addressing the needs of consumers today, the use of natural botanical and plant-based ingredients will take precedence offering skin calming, skin relief, soothing and repairing functions, as well as tone up brightening and blemish care.
Studies have revealed that flowers promote various forms of skin health such as increasing skin immunity and reducing cell tiredness, among others. This is evident in products such as the Red Energy Serum that has the pomegranate flower and fruit in its formulation to help stimulate keratinocyte cells (skin cells), revitalizing exhausted skin, and bringing the skin back to its optimal condition.

L’Oréal Malaysia Helps Young Women Build a Better Life Through Beauty

After 12 months of training, 24 women between the ages of 16 and 20 graduated from L’Oréal Foundation’s Beauty for a Better Life programme, class of 2019 on 5th Dec 2019. Now certified hairdressers and makeup artists, these young women are ready to make their mark in the beauty industry!
Based on the belief that there is power in education, Beauty for a Better Life programme was first initiated by L’Oréal Malaysia in 2016 for the company to do its part in contributing towards empowering young women in the country through education. It provides them with high-quality, tuition-free training in the sectors of professional hairdressing and beauty care. Partnering with the National Council of Women’s Organisation (NCWO) through the YWCA Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC), it aims to educate young Malaysian women who do not have the opportunity to access decent education and to obtain a recognized certification in the field of hairdressing and beauty. Empowered with skills, these young women are able to gain motivation and self-respect, together with the means for professional integration into their respective communities.
The graduation ceremony was graced by Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Puan Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Minister of Women, Family & Community Development. She remarked that the Beauty for a Better Life programme complements the ministry’s efforts to develop underprivileged women by providing vocational training opportunities to those who cannot afford it. She also highlighted as the training is tuition-free, it eradicates the barrier for young women from poor families to gain a professional skill, and more importantly a means of living through employment or starting their own service business thereafter.

YB Yeoh continued to highlight that the government cannot, or at least not on their own to provide such vocational training unless they partner with people who excel in the industry such as L’Oréal to guide and mentor young women to find their place and remain connected in the marketplace.

Qualitas: GP Clinics as First Line of Care for Mental Health

I believe that work is good for mental health but a negative working environment can lead to physical and mental health problems. It is sad to know that mental health issues in Malaysia is worrying. In response to this, homegrown and leading primary healthcare provider Qualitas Medical Group (‘Qualitas’) hosted a panel session to raise awareness and initiate robust discussions on mental health at the workplace. Themed, “Mental Health at the Workplace: The Unspoken Truth” was held at Sime Darby Convention Centre days ago.
It was a full house at the forum, the session was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) as well as Third Party Administrators, corporate and industrial leaders. Approximately 100 guests from the public and private sector, as well as civil society has attended the forum.
The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Puan Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development. In her keynote speech, Yang Berhormat Puan Hannah Yeoh emphasized the pressing need to reduce the stigma on mental health issues within the community and the important role that general practitioners can play as the first line of care on mental health. YB also shared that the mental health issues in the country is increasing and the age is getting younger. This is indeed a worrying issues in Malaysia.
Delivering a keynote address at the session, Chairman and Managing Director of Qualitas Medical Group, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr Noorul Ameen Mohamed Ishack said, “Mental health has been extensively discussed by key authorities, non-profit organisations for many years. Sadly, individuals suffering from depression and anxiety are reluctant to seek help as they fear the stigma of being stereotyped. The time has come for immediate practical actions to be taken by all stakeholders – The general practitioners should be empowered to play a more active and positive role in the management of mental health wellness; and for that, changes need to be made by the Government in empowering general practitioners to act as the gatekeeper on mental health.”

The Art of Position Book Launch @ Popular Flagship Store, IPC Shopping Centre

I love reading, and I read almost everyday while travelling on the train to work. They take us beyond our world and into someone else’s real or imaginary one. They satisfy the curiosity of the elusive “What if?”.
I was honored to be invited to The Art of Position Book Launch held at Popular Flagship Store, IPC Shopping Centre earlier today. There, we had learnt so much from the beautiful and kind-hearted author Datuk Stella Chin. She has shared so much about her wonderful experiences.
In her interpretation, the Chinese character of the word “Position” is written as , a combination of Human 人and Stand 立. This character blend can be interpreted as a “stand that dominates a person's action”.
In fact, everyone has their own position in a team. If you want to be in a better position, you have to work harder; if you want to change your position, you have to change your mindset; and if you want to be in a better position next year, you have to start investing yourself now. Your ambition has to be supported with new skills, improvements and talents.

Sun Life Malaysia Sets Malaysia Book of Records for Most Green Energy Generated with Sustainability Bicycle

As a mother of 2 lovely girls, I strongly believe in healthy and sustainable living. We only have one Earth and are utterly dependent on it for our survival and well-being. Hence, we should be leading a life that has little impact on the environment.
I am glad to know that Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad and Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad (collectively Sun Life Malaysia), a life insurance and Family Takaful provider respectively, has spent a year-long efforts in championing healthy and sustainable living to empower Malaysians to live healthier and brighter lives, and earned a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records.

Throughout 2019, the Company placed sustainability bicycles at all its Brighter Lives Roadshows in shopping malls and key events which saw more than 7000 Malaysians pedalling away to generate a total of 2,500 Wh of electricity.
The energy generated are then converted into monetary value amounting to RM2,750 to assist HOPE worldwide Malaysia (HOPE), a charity organisation that focuses on helping the urban poor community, with their center’s electricity expenses.

DKSH Spreads Fun with Skippy On The World Sandwich Day 2019

Do you know that today, 3rd November 2019 is World Sandwich Day? I personally believed that the best way to pay ode to the occasion is by DIY sandwiches and eating it! Sandwiches are simple in the sense that the only rule you truly have to follow to make a sandwich is that you need to put something in between two slices of bread. But great sandwiches constitute more than just an ordinary PB&J (peanut butter and jelly). Great sandwiches balance protein, dairy, vegetables, sauces and bread into a perfect food item.
Thanks to DKSH Business Unit Consumer Goods, the leading Market Expansion Services provider for Fast Moving Consumer Goods in Asia, and DIY Bites Studio for organizing a fun and fantastic sandwich making session with SKIPPY® Peanut butter at Setia City Mall earlier today.
Invited media and guests got to learn from the nine-year-old culinary prodigy Chef Leah Choy as well as the experienced Chef Jie Low. With inspirational recipes specially created by the culinary experts at Skippy and DIY Bites Studio, we were treated to a hands-on experience on how to transform an everyday sandwich into a gourmet dish by incorporating the delicious and smooth taste of Skippy peanut butter. It was so fun to make our own sandwiches.
(L to R) Chef Jie Low, Chef Leah Choy

“Sandwiches are a staple in any household or restaurant today. This versatile, on-the-go and easy-to-make food can be a balanced meal because it can include meat, vegetables, dairy products and sometimes even fruits. We share Skippy’s passion in inspiring people and are happy to celebrate this occasion with their iconic peanut butter brand,” explained Chua Chong Hoon, Vice President, FMCG, DKSH Malaysia.

50,000 breakfasts for Malaysian commuters

There are many reasons a healthy breakfast should be a daily routine for you and your family. But if it is not, help is on the way! October is Dutch Lady Breakfast Month and the No. 1* milk brand will partner Kellogg’s to give away 50,000 sets of breakfast for free from 21 to 31 October at various LRT stations in Klang Valley!
Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (DLMI) advocates Malaysians to boost their daily nutrient needs by pairing their breakfast with a glass of milk. “Breakfast is the first nourishment our body gets after 8 to 12 hours of fasting from the last meal. It fuels our body and brain by providing the nutrients we need for the day ahead. This is why a nutritious breakfast is important to give us a strong start to the day,” said Ms. Ramjeet Kaur Virik, Marketing Director, Consumer Dairy, DLMI.
On the left: Mr. Tarang Gupta, Managing Director of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad
On the right: Mr. Anoop Abraham, Managing Director of Kellogg’s South East Asia

The benefits of eating breakfast are proven. Children and adolescents who habitually consume breakfast are more likely to have better micro and macronutrient intake, less likely to be overweight or obese, and more likely to have higher physical activity levels. 1

Studies also showed that breakfast skippers were 1.34 times more likely to be overweight2 than breakfast eaters who are likely to have a better total dietary intake, including key nutrients such as sodium, fibre, and folate which helps in maintaining a healthy weight.3 Breakfast also fills you up and helps to avoid overeating or snacking later in the day.
Despite the benefits of eating breakfast, we would tend to skip it most of the time. Mornings are usually the busiest time of the day for most families and working adults. For urbanites, waking up early to beat the jam is crucial to getting to school and work on time. According to My Breakfast Study, 1 in 4 Malaysian children, aged 6 to 17 years old, skipped breakfast at least 3 days per week. 2

[Review] Murad Rapid Age Spot Correcting Serum

Few years back, I noticed some changed in my mother's skin. As she age, the unpopular age spots start appearing. The dark spots getting obvious day by day. Hence, when I got to know about Murad Rapid Age Spot Correcting Serum, a product that is clinically proven to reduce dark spots, age spots & hyperpigmentation in just 1 week without using hydroquinone, I decided to gift it to my mum.
Why we need to avoid hydroquinone, you may ask. Well, it could bring common side effects including mild skin irritation and sensitization (burning, stinging), dermatitis, dryness, redness or inflammatory reaction.
This clinically proven serum uses a proprietary NHP-3 technology, which is supported by more than 10 years of research—as an alternative to hydroquinone to even out the skin tone and reduce dark spots. Vitamin C, oligopeptides and subtle light-reflecting pearls also work to give the skin an overall brightened appearance for a more youthful complexion over time. The serum also contain Niacinamide: Supports natural cell turnover to visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots while targeting key signs of aging; Hexylresorcinol: Minimizes damage that can lead to future discoloration and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and Plankton Extract: Encapsulated blend of green and brown microalgae, visibly dissolves dark spots to revitalize skin’s natural tone and even complexion. Hence, Murad Rapid Age Spot Correcting Serum is safe to use on all skin type.
To use, just massage the serum evenly over face, neck and chest after cleansing, day and night. Use a Murad sunscreen during the day. At night, follow with your favorite Murad Step 3 moisturizer.
