Da Long Yi Hotpot - Authentic Sichuan Mala Hotpot Restaurant

When it comes to Sichuan cuisine, the addictive Sichuan Mala hotpot comes into mind instantly. Sichuan Mala is all about the bold flavours, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from liberal use of garlic and chili peppers, as well as the unique flavour of Sichuan pepper. No wonder Sichuan is known as the city of gastronomy.
Now, even though we can't travel to Sichuan, we can still taste an authentic addictive Sichuan Mala hotpot here at Da Long Yi Hotpot. Originated from Chengdu, Sichuan, Da Long Yi Hotpot is a renowned restaurant with over 300 branches worldwide. The first outlet in Malaysia was opened at Kota Damansara in 2020, 2nd outlet at Johor, and the 3rd outlet will be opening soon at Bukit Bintang golden triangle.
As a foodie, we were honoured to be invited to Da Long Yi Hotpot, Kota Damansara for a food review recently. You will see the red colored Da Long Yi Hotpot restaurant once you turn to Sunway Nexis building. Walking into Da Long Yi, you will first be greeted by friendly staffs and numerous awards certificated at the entrance. The restaurant fitted with an imperial palace look with comfortable seating arrangements. If you prefer more privacy, there are 2 rooms available at the outlet too, where the small room fits 6-8 persons and the big Room can accommodate 10 persons.
Once you sit down, you will notice a small red tin of sesame oil placed on the table. It is a specialty sesame oil that’s flown in directly from Chengdu for us to mix with the dipping sauce. The special sesame oil is the secret to eating mala hotpot because it actually helps to coat our stomach and protect it from the extreme spiciness.

We can make our own dipping sauce with assorted condiments such as chopped bird’s eye chilli, coriander, garlic and dipping sauce at the sauce station.
Next, it's time to choose a soup base. There are a few broths to choose from, we had tried their tri-pot consists of signature Mala spicy soup base, tomato soup and mushroom soup on that day. My personal favourite is the mushroom soup because it's delicious and perfectly match with all the ingredients.
Talking about the ingredients, there are plenty for us to choose from the menu of Da Long Yi Hotpot and most of them are directly imported from China. From essential vegetables, black fungus, mushrooms, meat slices, meat balls, bamboo fish paste to exotic ones like duck blood, duck tongue, pig brain, beef tripe, as well as premium ingredients like crayfish and fresh prawns. Diners are suggested to cook the ingredients in the hotpot according to the suggested time listed on the menu for best flavor.

Staple food like rice and noodles are available for you to order here.

Da Long Yi Hotpot also serve snacks and desserts. We have tried a few on that day, I like the Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cake the most, it is crispy outside and chewy inside.
My husband likes the Black Tea stinky tofu the most, they are crispy outside and juicy inside.
Meanwhile, meat lover will love their crispy pork that’s extra crunchy and flavoured.
A meal is never complete without dessert. I love their Caramel soybean pudding that is topped with crispy peanut and the refreshing lemon ice jelly a lot. I will definitely come back for more.
For people who are into beer, you must try the Harbin beer which is hardly find elsewhere. Harbin beer is very smooth with lightly bitter aftertaste, I love it. Besides the beer, there are also many other beverages available here at Da Long Yi Hotpot.
Not only we can dine in at Da Long Yi Hotpot, we can also purchase instant hotpot and signature tea from there too! We are truly spoilt for choices here. Come visit Da Long Yi Hotpot and indulge in a savoury bowl of spicy goodness here now.
