As a global branding initiative created to promote Taiwanese food and is heavily advocated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), TAIWAN SELECT zones were created in August 2024 to promote Taiwanese mochi and sauces across selected AEON supermarkets in Malaysia. Following the success of these promotion zones, TAIWAN SELECT is stepping up its efforts with a series of promotional activities in AEON supermarkets from the 22 to 26 November 2024 to further ignite the passion for Taiwanese food.
Shoppers can find many popular Taiwanese delicacies, such as pineapple tarts, fermented bean curd, vegetarian meat floss, brown sugar, and rice vermicelli, that have been brought together under the banner of TAIWAN SELECT to expand the reach of these delicious offerings in Malaysia. Dedicated showcases at AEON supermarkets in Mid Valley Megamall, Cheras Selatan, and Bukit Tinggi have received an enthusiastic response since the moment they hit the shelves.
Many Malaysian consumers have praised Taiwanese food products for their consistent high-quality and flavours that meet the expectations of the local market. To further increase awareness of Taiwanese food, TAIWAN SELECT will be holding a special five-day event in the above-mentioned AEON branches to promote more than 160 selected products from 45 Taiwanese food companies.
While attending the launch of TAIWAN SELECT promotion event, James Chang, Director of Economic Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, remarked that the collaboration with Malaysia’s premier retailer AEON provides the ideal platform for Taiwanese food to reach more Malaysian consumers. He added that Taiwan has long been committed to creating not only innovative and delicious food but also food safety and quality. The selected products not only cater to local tastes but provide an excellent snapshot of Taiwan’s rich food culture.
As part of the promotional campaign, the organizers have invited renowned Malaysian cake artist Shaun Teo to create a towering Taiwanese inspired fondant cake that stands at over 100 centimeters tall. The cake will incorporate many Taiwan Select products such as mochi, egg rolls, mango ice and other delicacies, presented in the form of mystery boxes.
To increase the global presence of TAIWAN SELECT, the organizers plan to expand its reach next year (2025) to the United States, Japan, Singapore and other regions. The organizers will work with international food distributors to procure products suitable for each market and help put Taiwanese products on shelves around the world. Custom-themed promotional activities will be tailored to the preferences of each target audience. There are also plans to bring tea serving to major exhibitions held domestically in Taiwan so more people can experience Taiwan’s healthy and delicious food.
The TAIWAN SELECT promotional event not only highlights the diversity and quality of Taiwanese food but also helps boost visibility and sales in the Malaysian market. The TAIWAN SELECT zones at the three mentioned locations will run until the end of the year, providing consumers with ample opportunity to enjoy a wide range of high-quality Taiwanese delicacies. Whether you're a fan of Taiwanese cuisine or curious to explore more, this is an unmissable chance to experience the authentic taste of Taiwan firsthand.
